BICYCLE RICKSHAWS ON WATERLOO
During the public meetings to discuss what is important to the neighborhood, Cindy saw an opportunity to teach youth about storytelling, while they earn a stipend teaching neighborhood visitors the history of Collinwood. There are now two bicycle rickshaws that can be seen in the community during future events.
Project Topic: Youth Engagement
Project Description: Project will employ neighborhood youth for part-time summer work being area ambassadors operating bicycle rickshaws for special events. They would learn Collinwood history and create images and poems about the area to display on the rickshaws and share with the public.
Community Engagement Strategy: Youth applicants , up to 10, can apply in April and be involved in workshops in May and early June. A presentation for the community will happen in June where everyone is invited to hear their history discoveries and interpretations. Work with the rickshaws as ambassadors will begin with Waterloo Arts Festival for $8 an hour for 4-5 hour shifts.
